"Step Out of the Shadows"
October 16, 2022
For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow. Job 8:9

A number of years ago a group of us were returning from the Philippines and had a stopover in Hong Kong.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105

It was pitch dark where my Pawpaw Burton lived. Just before bed, he would walk out to the barn to check on the cow and the mules. I loved to go with him, but I held tight to his hand and watched the light from the lantern every step of the way.

Luke 4:1 “And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.”

In January of 2020, Helen and I had the great privilege of taking a tour of the Holy Land. At one point we visited Masada. Standing atop of the plateau we looked down on the valley below. From that perspective it was hard to see any vegetation; absolutely no trees, no grass, not a stream or river to be found as far as the eye could see.

And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house. Mark 2:1

January 11, 2020, Helen and I walked the streets of the city of Capernaum on the Sea of Galilee. We were just two days into our ten-day tour of the Holy Land. In the back of my mind, I was so looking forward to Jerusalem, we had all been told that we would spend our last three days there and I couldn't dream of a better way to end our trip.

Dr. Tolbert Samuel Moore was truly bigger than life. He loved life; he loved his family, though sometimes he didn’t know how to show it, he loved the Lord, he loved the scriptures and he loved the gospel. More than anything he wanted to be remembered as a gospel preacher, and that is just how thousands remember him.

“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5.

The scars we have within bring a different kind of pain and often that hurt is harder to bear and harder to explain. I want you to think of something, what I’m about to say helps me most everyday, because the burdens, sorrows and hurts we carry in our mind and spirit can overwhelm us sometimes.

You are no doubt listening to Christmas music, whether you want to or
not; the children are getting ready for their part in the Nativity Play, the

"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"
December 15, 2022
"Someday soon we all will be together
If the fates allow
Until then, we'll have to muddle through somehow
So, have yourself a Merry Little Christmas now"

When you hear this song; and you will, think of your missionary friends, those you or your church supports. If you don't know any foreign missionaries personally then read through a few prayer letters, visit some of their websites and Facebook pages and get to know them. Your encouragement will mean more than you could ever guess. So have yourself a merry little Christmas, and help some missionary have a merry little Christmas as well.

"I Remember That Christmas"
December 22, 2022
“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” II Peter 3:8

Do you remember many of your childhood Christmases? I do….my father loved Christmas more than anyone else in the family. He really worked hard to make sure we all, two sisters, me and a brother, had the best Christmas ever.

"What of the New Year"
December 29, 2022
So, what of the new year? Should I set goals? Should I make plans? Do I have any sway on my life or the life of others. Especially when I consider,

Ecclesiastes 1:9 “The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.”

"For Once in My Life"
January 6, 2023
I look back at my time in Guatemala as one of the important times in my life. It was only four months, but those four months changed my life completely. It gave me a real heart for missions.

"God Walks the Dark Hills"

So...after New Year's Day and before Easter is coming into view, people tend to slip into the mid-winter blues. The days are short, the nights are cold and everything looks so dreary. It's a bad time for those who suffer from depression and anyone that can get down and out. I would imagine that everyone reading this can relate, we all know how it feels to be a little bit blue.

"First Road Trip of the Year"
February 9, 2023
I love road trips. I have some friends that actually hate them. They hate to drive, they hate to sleep in a strange bed, they hate having to eat out...they really hate everything about road trips. I'm on the opposite end of that spectrum.. I love a long drive, I love restaurants, I love good motels. I do want you to notice that I did not say I love all motels, I love good motels.

"Southern Nights"
February 16, 2023
I've lived in many states and even another country and I have come to learn that what they say is true, you can take the boy out of the south, but you can never take the south out of the boy. I even put this line in a song, "I miss the family and my southern life." It's true, I do love Pennsylvania and I love Nottingham, the village and the church, but from time to time I miss hot summer Georgia nights, iced tea on the porch and chicken fried in an iron skillet.

"Preaching and Praying"
April 20, 2023
We were in the middle of our Bible Exposition Conference when Helen got a call from her nephew in Texas; the news wasn't good. Her brother, Jeff, was in a horrible automobile accident and was in the hospital unresponsive. We were so busy with morning and evening meetings and feeding the out-of-town guests, it took a couple of days to sink in.

I know many of you have been on short term mission trips, even more have not, but you've seen the pictures. I've taken hundreds and been in thousands of mission trip photos and I love looking at them or seeing them in a well done presentation. It seems every picture tells a story...
