"Preaching and Praying - Part Two"
Have you ever wanted to just take a long ride in the country?  It's not easy to find the time, and have the nice weather, to take that picturesque ride through those back roads with the windows down and the sun on your face.  Well on the Wednesday morning after the Georgia Baptist Fellowship Meeting that's just what I found.  I had all day to drive back to Jonesboro, GA and the Harvest Baptist Tabernacle to preach at 7:00 pm. So I took advantage of it; first stop Santa Claus, Georgia, about fifteen minutes from the hotel.
I just had to stop at these Baptist Churches, each one was unique!
Juliette is the town where "Green Fried Tomatoes At the Whistle Stop Cafe" was filmed.  The truth is that several movies had scenes filmed there.  You will notice a bank in the pictures; it was built as a false front and the man who owned the property built a building onto the back and opened a gift shop.
That was a great day, riding the back roads and taking in the rural Georgia that I miss from my childhood.  If the weather is nice, or even if it isn't the best, the very next chance you get, hit the road.  Drive slow, make lots of stops and pictures; don't just make time...Enjoy the ride!
It was only mid morning when I left Santa Claus and started north, I was on my way to Juliette, Georgia so I made a few stops along the way.
The Post Office is the key to why we have a town called Santa Claus, Georgia. In 1941, the pecan growers of South Georgia thought they could boost sales and bring in potential customers if they could have Santa Claus on the postmark when their product was shipped out, therefore a town to go along with the post office and special little places to visit wouldn't hurt either. Now, 82 years later, we have the lovely little town just outside Vidalia, GA, and that's a story for another time.
